WELCOME PARENTS AND STUDENTS!!
HELLO STUDENTS AND PARENTS!
My name is Ms. Ray, and I will be your Science teacher this year! I am so excited to start this new year and meet all of your wonderful students! The beginning of the year is always nerve racking for students and parents, so to help you feel a little more prepared for my class, I’ve included a list of materials as well as class expectations! I’d also like to tell you a little bit about myself, so you know who your student is going to be spending their time with during the day at school!
I spent the majority of my life in Tyler, Texas, where I attended Whitehouse High School. I participated in Swimming as well as dancing in my free time, and spent many of my Fridays watching my brother play basketball at Bishop Gorman High school, as well as the University of Texas at Tyler. After graduating high school I attended the University of North Texas where I pursued a degree in Education! Since then I have lived in the DFW area in order to stay close to my family. In my free time I enjoy biking, hiking, reading, and exploring! I love nature and the outdoors, as well as learning about our environment, so I frequently attend special programs at The Heard Natural Science Museum and the John Bunker Sands Wetland Center.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all. I’ve always had an open door policy for both parents and students. I want to reassure you that I will try and make myself as available as possible for your students, especially before and after school hours. I arrive 45 minutes early each day and typically leave around an hour or two after school has ended. I do ask that if parents would like to come by and have a meeting concerning issues regarding their student, that they would send me an e-mail so we can figure out a time that’s best for both of us. This will allow me to clear my schedule so that we have no interruptions!
Classroom Expectations:
1. Everyone is asked to THINK before speaking… is it:
· True?
· Helpful?
· Inspiring?
· Necessary?
· Kind?
2. Be respectful of everyone
3. Follow directions
4. Be prepared each day
5. Participate and Stay Positive!
Materials:
Each student will need the following :
· Pencils
· Notebook Paper
· A binder and three dividers
o One for Homework
o One for Notes
o One for Tests and Reviews
· A planner (to write important dates)
I can't wait to meet you all!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Kate Ray
